Does Diablo 4 have microtransactions?
Diablo 4 is out for everyone to enjoy, and it's enjoying rave reviews from critics and fans. That said, the news surrounding Diablo 4 isn't all sunshine and rainbows.
As a live service game, Diablo 4 promises a stream of fresh new content to keep the fun going in months to come. However, with that comes some extra monetization. Yes, Diablo 4 has microtransactions, and they’ll take a couple forms as the game progresses. The silver lining is that, so far, all microtransactions are purely cosmetic. Let's go over the extra stuff the game will let you buy.
On both the character login screen and in one of the in-game main menus, Diablo 4 features a "Shop" tab. Selecting this will open a cosmetic store that features class-specific costumes that will rotate in availability. When new items are added, a notification marker will appear next to the icon and won't be cleared until you hover over the new items.
Fortunately, none of these items offer any gameplay advantage. Additionally, outside of specific bundles, items purchased here require the use of Platinum, a premium currency purchased with real-life money. This may make it hard to get the exact amount of Platinum you need to purchase an item you want.
When the game's seasonal content appears, we’ll begin to see battle passes appear as well. This will contain a free track as well as a paid track. According to Blizzard, the paid track will strictly offer cosmetic items. Click here for more details about the battle pass.
The paid battle pass should cost about $10 to unlock for its relevant season. An accelerated battle pass, which contains the paid battle pass with 20 tier skips and an exclusive cosmetic, will cost about $25. These will both be in Platinum, so these prices could go lower depending on the premium currency in your account.
Players who purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate edition of Diablo 4 will receive the paid battle pass or accelerated battle pass for free, respectively.
