Dangerous driver causes terror and alarm at Falmouth Pendennis Point beauty point

A mum-of-two says it appeared the driver 'definitely wanted to hurt someone' and it was a 'miracle' no one was injured

The alarming actions of a dangerous driver is said to have caused a family and others to fear for their lives at a popular beauty spot in Falmouth. A mum-of-two has told how a young male driver and his female passenger appeared to deliberately want to cause harm to others, including trying to knock down pedestrians and a cyclist, throwing a lit cigarette into a car, and hurling beer bottles.

A dog was also knocked down and killed but it is not known if it was by the same driver. The incident, described by the mum as having been 'very frightening and like 'something out of an action film', took place yesterday, May 20, at Pendennis Point at around 5.30pm.

She added it was a 'miracle' no one was harmed and was told by police after reporting it that they would be sending out four police cars in the area to try and find the driver.

The mum, who lives in Redruth area and asked to remain anonymous, said: "Me and my partner and two young children were having a lovely family day out down at Falmouth when we decided to pop to Pendennis Point for ice creams. Shortly after a silver grey series 1 BMW came driving through at full pelt speed and the young male driver, who had dark brown hair gelled down, was honking his horn continuously.

"Families had to hold their kids back out of the way because it looked like the car wasn't going to stop. We also saw a young blonde woman in the passenger seat lean out of the car and push someone's car door shut.

"She chucked a cigarette butt into someone's soft top car. I don't know if it was alight or not."

It is believed the car then parked up and as the family was leaving they then spotted the car behind them and being driven in an intimidating way.

The mum recalled: "The driver would stay right back then rev up fast right behind us with his full beams on. It was really scary.

"I made my partner safely pull over to let them go in front because I was so scared he was going to drive into the back of us. When the car overtook you could smell weed really bad.

"It appeared they were drunk and intoxicated. They started to chuck beer bottles out the windows and then started to aim to knock down pedestrians.

"We saw the driver aim for a group of teenage boys who stepped back in shock and then for a cyclist. He was driving erratically and I was worried he was going to kill someone. She was doing rude hand gestures out of the car.

"To our horror, he was driving on the wrong side of the road through Swanpool and trying to aim for people and families on pavements. The place was swarming with families yesterday and he definitely wanted to hurt someone. It was a very frightening experience.

"We then saw a poor dog knocked down in the middle of the road fighting for its life and die. It was terrible.

"We didn't see him actually hit the dog as he zoomed off well ahead in front but I think his actions certainly contributed to the poor dog being hit.

"People need to be made aware of this dangerous driver in case he is out again doing the same thing. He needs to be caught and punished.

"You just don't expect to witness something like that and when you do it's horrible. He wanted to hurt someone and I'm just thankful no one was because they were vigilant and moved back out of his way." The matter has been reported to the police.
