No matter how much money is spent, Mets are still the Mets

For Keith McPherson, sometimes things just don't change, no matter how much effort, or money, you put towards doing so.

Case in point: the 2023 Mets.

"The more things change, the more things stay the same," Keith said in his first five-hour show back from paternity leave. "As I’m sitting at home watching the Mets lose to the Tigers, the Rockies, the Nationals, I’m like, ‘It's just gotta be the jerseys. It's gotta be the M-E-T-S.’

"There's something in the air about the Mets…no matter how much money you got, who the owner is, who the GM is, no matter who the manager is, it's Metsy. I’m looking at [Jeff] McNeil out in left field, it probably should have been Mark Canha out there, he can't even field the ball and throw it in!"

The Mets have put together a record payroll, but now hold a five-game losing streak, an 8.5 game deficit in the NL East, and are below .500, falling well below expectations at this point in the season. Despite that eye-popping payroll, Keith says the bullpen looks like it was put together from the bargain bin, as Adam Ottavino didn't do much to counter that argument during Wednesday night's loss.

"They’ve got a luxury rotation, a lot of money in the rotation, but that bullpen is a Dollar General bullpen," Keith said. "It's not worth anything. That bullpen is trash. We know it. We all see it."
